Every month we host a variety of events of interest to the general and medical communities. These range from free community health screenings, support group meetings and Continuing Medical Education events for doctors, nurses and other health professionals.

COMMUNITY EVENTS & SUPPORT GROUPS

July 24, ThursdayAlzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Support Group meets on the fourth Thursday of each month at Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center. Please contact Community Services at 201 392-3266 for more information.

July 8, Tuesday 10:30 AM North Bergen Senior Center, 1441 45th Street, North Bergen, NJ The Division of Trauma-Injury Prevention Committee, sponsored by the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety Administration will conduct a senior citizen falls prevention program. The program will include an informative presentation and safety giveaways. The presentation will be given by Marissa Fisher, RN of the Port Authority Heroes of 9/11 Trauma Center's Injury Prevention Committee. July 16, Wednesday 12:30 PM – 2 PM There will be stroke screening for residents of Secaucus in the second floor conference room at Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center. Cardiologist Umesh Katdare, MD will be the attending physician. The screenings will be held from 12:30 PM to 2 PM. Please call Community Services at 201 392-3266 for an appointment.

Alcoholics Anonymous will hold meetings each Friday at 8:00 PM in the Penthouse at Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center. For more information please contact Community Services at 201 392-3266.

Goldman Sachs has awarded our JCMC Child Behavioral Health program two grant-like programs to allow Goldman Sachs employees to interact and participate with youth in our programs.

July 15, Tuesday “Take Children Exploring” for our Therapeutic Nursery serving 3-5 year olds. Program at the NJ Children’s Museum.

July 21, Monday “Climbing our Goals” for our Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program for 11-17 year olds. A day of rock climbing at Chelsea Piers in NYC.

July 26, Saturday 9:00 AM – 12:00 noon The Community Development Center is sponsoring CPR classes to the community in English and Spanish. Every First Wednesday of the Month – Julyt 2th. The Hudson County Hispanic Pastor’s Association will meet 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at the Jersey City Medical Center, Room 5. LibertyHealth new employee orientation. For any new employee who has not yet received and completed orientation.

July 8-10 JCMC Conference Room 6 (1 East) 8 AM- 4 PM

This three-day nurse didactic RN orientation is designed to prepare the newly hired RN with an orientation to the Nursing Department and the assigned clinical area of responsibility. Classroom sessions are followed by a unit defined clinical orientation period with a preceptor.

Target Audience: LibertyHealth new hired Registered Nurses.

July 11, 2008, Friday JCMC Conference Room 6 (1 East) 8 AM – 4 PM This offering is designed to teach the Registered Nurse the basic principles and techniques of intravenous therapy as used in an acute care setting. It is designed as a guideline for Home IV Therapy. Content will be provided through the use of assigned readings, self assessment questions and hands on practice skills.

Target Audience: All LibertyHealth RN’s. Contact Michele Uy at the Educational Center 201 915-2948. Free for LibertyHealth RN’s (FT/PT). $100. for Non- Employee RN’s. Registration one week prior.

This two-day didactic course is designed to acquaint the existing Nursing Assistant with the expanded role of Patient Care Technician (PCT). New skills are developed including ECG, Phlebotomy, and other technical duties. After successful completion of the theoretical contents the orientee will have ten days of orientation in the assigned unit with a preceptor.

Target Audience: LibertyHealth newly hired PCT’s.

This three day didactic training course prepares a nursing assistant in the performance of their role as a member of the health care team of Liberty Health. July 3, Thursday 12:00 noon to 1 PM Conference Room 5&6 JCMC Monthly Trauma Conference with an hour lecture regarding different points on Trauma. This program has been approved by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses for 1.0 contact hours. Open to all LibertyHealth employees.
