Basic Life Support Service (BLS)

State Certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT's) respond to requests for medical assistance 24 hours a day in the city of Jersey City and Secaucus. These dedicated men and women have successfully completed the DOT course for rendering BLS and the American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course.

EMT's can determine the nature and extent of an illness or injury and establish the priorities for required emergency care: airway management, positive pressure ventilation, cardiac resuscitation, control of hemorrhaging, immobilizing fractures, bandaging, childbirth, managing mentally disturbed patients and initially caring for poison and burn patients.

The Basic Life Support Service area of Jersey City Medical Center Emergency Medical Services includes Jersey City, Secaucus, the Holland Tunnel complex, the Eastern Spur of the New Jersey Turnpike, Newport City and the Newport Mall complex, Port Authority of NY & NJ PATH Train system and Liberty State Park.
