When You Go Home

Discharge

Your doctor will determine when you are ready to go home and will write your discharge orders. For your safety and convenience, hospital staff and volunteers assist you in preparing to leave. Please arrange for a relative or friend to accompany you when you are leaving.

Your Bill

Your bill will reflect charges relative to services for your care including your room accommodations, meals, supplies, medications, tests or procedures, use of special equipment and facilities, staff nursing and care. If you were admitted through the Emergency Department, those charges will also be included.

Because medical costs are often unexpected, it is understandable that you may anticipate difficulties in meeting your portion of the expenses. Please contact our Credit Supervisor at 201-770-3700 as early as possible to make credit arrangements satisfactory to you and the hospital. The hospital will accept cash, checks (certified, personal and traveler’s), Discover, MasterCard, and Visa.

If you have no insurance coverage to pay for the services provided, listed below are hospital staff members and public agencies that may be able to help you in arranging financial assistance.

Financial Counselors

LibertyHealth financial counselors can tell you of programs for which you qualify. Call our Credit Supervisor at 201-770-3700 during the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Hudson County Welfare Department

If you need to apply for Medicaid coverage for yourself or your family, contact the Hudson County Welfare Department at 201-420-3000/3064. You may be eligible for reduced-cost care at the hospital depending on your family size and income. A financial counselor will discuss these matters with you and can determine your eligibility. Contact our business office at 201-770-3700 as soon as possible.

Physician Charges

Your personal physician is not an employee of the hospital. He/She will bill you separately as will any consulting physician for the services they provide.

Other Separate Services

If you required their services, you may receive bills from the radiologist, the pathologist who did the laboratory tests, and from the anesthesiologist if you had surgery. In addition, you may receive bills from the ambulance company, private duty nurses, the blood bank, or your emergency department physician.

Financial Assistance
Care for Indigent Patients

LibertyHealth offers financial assistance and reduced charge financial assistance, which is available only for medically-necessary care.

An application for determining eligibility for financial assistance and reduced charge financial assistance care may be obtained through the Business Office, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. by calling 201-770-3700.

LibertyHealth will make a written determination of eligibility for financial assistance or reduced charge financial assistance within ten (10) working days from the time of submission of the completed application with all required documentation. An applicant found ineligible may reapply at a future time when the applicant presents him or herself for services and believes his or her financial circumstances have changed making him or her eligible for financial assistance or reduced charge financial assistance.

LibertyHealth is required by state law to provide these services to qualifying patients. A patient has up to one (1) year from the date the service is provided to apply for financial assistance and reduced charge financial assistance.

Rx 4 NJ

If you need help with paying for prescription medicines, you may be eligible for discounted or even free prescription medicines. Rx 4 NJ is a voluntary partnership to help people gain access to needed medicine. Call 1-888-793-6755 (1-888-Rx FOR NJ). If you have computer access click: www.rx4nj.org.
