Why Should You Become a Volunteer?
Becoming a volunteer at Jersey City Medical Center is a way for you to give something back to the community. Develop new skills. Make new friends. Explore a career in health care. And gain hands-on work experience.
Our volunteers range from teenagers to retirees, and many in between. These are both people who love keeping busy and those who are already busy, but somehow find the time to help others.
As a volunteer, you will play an integral part in the life of our hospital, complementing the work of our professional staff and physicians and making a difference in the hospital experience of our patients.
Opportunities
There are many opportunities for volunteers at Jersey City Medical Center. Here are just a few examples of what our volunteers do:
 |
• Provide companionship and support to patients of all ages hospitalized on nursing floors, in the ER, or in other patient areas, so as to make their hospital stay as positive as possible.
• Act as an advocate and liaison for patients and their families.
• Serve as a cashier or stock person
• Perform clerical duties
• Dispense information to patients, their families and guests either in person or on the telephone
• Act as a messenger or patient escort
• Circulate books, magazines, newspapers, and games |
The Department of Volunteer Services will strive to assign you to an area that meets your interests. You can serve during the day, in the evening and/or on the weekend. Generally, a minimum of a four hour, once a week commitment is preferred.
