Volunteering at Jersey City Medical Center can provide a vast array of unique opportunities for you to gain knowledge and develop new skills while experiencing the satisfaction of making your community a better place in which to live.

JCMC volunteers are a special group of people who share their time, talents, and energy to help others. An important part of the healthcare team at JCMC, the efforts of our volunteers complement the function of the professional staff and enhance the comfort and quality of each patient’s stay.

Volunteer Opportunities:
As committed members of the Jersey City Medical Center family, volunteers share their expertise throughout the hospital. A wide variety of opportunities exist and include:

Clerical Services
Courier Services
Courtesy Cart
Emergency Department Liaison
Gift Shop
Knitters
Patient Visitor
Patient Representative
Patient Library
Surgical Family Liaison

In addition to these opportunities, new assignments are always being created to meet the ever changing needs of the hospital.

The Department of Volunteer Services strives to assign volunteers to areas that balance their individual interests. There are opportunities to serve during the day, in the evenings, and on weekends. Generally, a minimum of a four hour, once a week commitment is preferred.

Benefits of Volunteering:
Volunteering offers you the chance to use your existing skills to help others. It can also give you the opportunity to develop new skills, make friends, explore a career in healthcare, and gain experience in a work situation.

Volunteer Requirements:
Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age and must complete the following requirements:

Application
Two personal, professional or educational references
Personal Interview
Criminal Background Check
Medical Clearance including physician approval and tuberculosis screening

Once accepted into the program, volunteers participate in an orientation and training process. Hospital identification badges and uniforms are required for all volunteers.
